Medicare Part D Extra Help

For many Medicare recipients, prescription drug costs consume a large portion of their income. Fortunately, there is extra help available to people with low incomes and low assets (as defined by Social Security). Social Security is generally looking for individuals whose income is less than around $15,000 for individuals and $20,000 for couples and whose assets are below $11,500 for individuals and $23,000 for couples—excluding one's house and, in some cases, one's car. To see if you qualify for extra help (or the more comprehensive help available through Medicaid), contact Social Security, at 1-800-772-1213.
