Already Have VA Benefits

Many of our veterans receive their healthcare and/or prescription medications through a VA facility. VA coverage is not a substitute for Original Medicare, but is considered creditable, or as good as Medicare, for its Part D drug benefit. Having VA coverage does not reduce one’s Medicare options. This means that a fair number of people elect to receive care through the Medicare system instead of or in addition to using the VA system.

Should I get private Medicare insurance as well as VA?

Deciding whether to apply for a Medigap, Medicare Advantage, or Part D plan is a personal decision. Many people prefer to have the freedom of choice to go outside of the VA for doctors, hospitals, and/or prescription medications. If you are one of those people, you will want to consider a private insurance policy.

If I want to sign up for a private insurance policy, can you help?
