Medicare fraud is a crime that affects all of us, whether as taxpayers or beneficiaries.  As part of our work with Medicare recipients, we are often asked how our clients can protect themselves from the fraudulent scams that unfortunately do exist, and how to distinguish between legitimate service providers and potential criminal activity.  Medicare has additional information which you can read about on their site.

Medicare's Annual Election Period will start on this day!  On October 1, 2011 plan information for 2012 can be shared with the public, and enrollment into those plans starts October 15, 2011.  If you are already a Medicare beneficiary (and so not eligible for coverage because of a special circumstance, such as when your employer coverage is ending), you can at that point start researching and enrolling in plans for January 1, 2012 effective dates.  If you are going to be first eligible for Medicare January 1, 2012, and are in your Initial Election Period, you can submit applications starting on that day. 

For many plans, you can enroll over the phone by speaking with Aon Hewitt Navigators licensed agent.
